Obituary

Johnston City - Nola Hogue Smith 102 of Brentwood, Tennessee and Englewood, Florida, formerly of Dearborn, Michigan and Waynesville, North Carolina passed away at 1:25 P. M. on Monday November 6, 2023 at Somerfield Health Center in Brentwood, Tennessee.

Visitation will be held on Saturday November 11, 2023 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P. M. at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with services to follow.  Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.

Mrs. Smith is survived by a son Ray Smith and wife Nellie of Brentwood, Tennessee; a daughter, Nancy Broen of Georgetown, Texas; three grandchildren, Dawn Harris, Chris Smith, and Brett Smith; and four great grandchildren, James Harris, Erik Harris, Maggie Smith, and Shawn Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband Earl R. Smith, her parents Fred and Mary Hogue, her daughter Karen Roesler, her son-in-law Don Roesler, and her grandson David Roesler.

Mrs. Smith was born in Johnston City, graduated from Johnston City High School in 1939, and graduated from Bethel Women's College in 1941.  She also attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and taught business and theater at Ava High School in Jackson County, Illinois.  Nola was raised in the Baptist faith and later attended various Presbyterian Churches in towns and cities where she resided.  She was an outstanding musician who actively played her pianos for 80 years, first the upright, later her baby grand, and finally her pride and joy, her Baldwin grand piano!!

But most of all, Nola Hogue Smith was an inspirational, multi-talented person, wife, mother, grandmother, life-coach and friend to all who knew her!!
