OLIVE M. (STOKES) POTTS

Olive M. (Stokes) Potts went to be with her Lord at 6:33 PM, Tuesday, January 10, 2012. She died in her home at Johnston City, IL, with her husband and children by her side.
Services will be held at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, on Saturday, January 14, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Barry Robertson officiating. Internment will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Johnston City where she has been a member since 1948. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Olive was born on November 17, 1928, in New Virginia, south of Johnston City, to Henry and Jesse (Lawson) Stokes. She graduated from JCHS in 1946. Olive married Oral L. Potts on Oct. 1, 1950. This past fall they had celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Although she had been employed at several businesses, including Smoler Bros. and National Transformer, Olive retired from Herrin Health Mart as a bookkeeper, after almost 20 years of service. Olive was also a member of Local #881, UFCW.
Besides her husband, survivors include three sons and a daughter, Alan and his wife, Candace, of Belleville, IL; Larry and his wife Trisha, of Kansas City, MO; Brent and his wife, Lisa, of St. Peters, MO; and Susan Smith, and her husband Mark, of Johnston City, IL. Olive's grandchildren are Melissa Frier and her husband Dave, of Columbia, MO; Laura Rineberg and her husband, Steve, of O'Fallon, IL; Rebekah Williams and her husband Ray, of Ashland, KY; Larry Potts, Jr., and his wife Megan, of St. Louis, MO; Nicole Peynado and Jamie Begley of Kansas City, MO; Nathan and William Potts of St. Peters, MO; and Tyler and Derek Smith of Johnston City, IL. Olive's great-grandchildren are Claire, Jack, and Lily Rineberg of O'Fallon, IL; Parker, Carter, and Max Williams of Ashland, KY; and Braylin Rocha of Kansas City, MO; Mason and Ethan Peynado of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by two special cousins, Nancy (Runnels) Wallace and Barbara (Fowler) Warren, both of Johnston City, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Olive was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers William of Samaria, Michigan, and Joe of Evansville, Indiana. She was also preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Tom and Lora Stokes of Johnston City, IL, with whom she lived for several years.
