PATRICIA A. RAINS

Herrin-Patricia A. Rains 73 of Herrin passed away on Sunday February 5, 2012 at 10:57 A.M. at the Herrin Hospital surrounded by her family after a long fight with cancer.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday February 10, 2012 at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Msgr. Ken Schaefer officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 800 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.

Memorials may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Patricia was born on December 3, 1938 in Chicago the daughter of Patrick and Florence (Shaughnessy) Mearna. She married Jack Dee Rains on June 25, 1955 in Corinth, Mississippi. They were married for 50 years. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2004.

She retired from the Herrin Hospital working as a CNA for 25 years. She was of the Catholic Faith.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Jo Calvert of Herrin; 10 grandchildren, Melissa Sides, Adam Calvert, Kevin Sides Jr., Shane Rains, Mary Aderholt, Robin Sides, Misty Grohe, Kimberly Berg, Ammie Hoppenrath, and James Hoppenrath; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Reed of Chicago; 4 brothers, Patrick Mearna and wife Joan of Indiana, William Mearna and wife Sandy of Indiana, Robert Mearna and wife Darlene of Wilmington, and Michael Mearna and wife Mary of Michigan; 2 son-in-laws; Roger Hoppenrath of Chicago and Michael Sizemore of Herrin; and a beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 daughters, Candace Hoppenrath and Sherry Sizemore; 2 sons, Jack Dee Rains Jr. and Larry Dean Rains; a grandson, James Dean Calvert; a sister, Margaret Davis; and a son-in-law, James Richard Calvert.

She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and neighbors.
