Paul Moore

Born in Akin, IL on June 9th, 1934, the son of Eliga and Anna Moore. Paul married Gloria Cravens on July 9th, 1961. He was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church in Johnston City. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, and attending all of his grandkids' and great grandson's sporting events. He graduated from Benton, IL High School in 1955, and forfeiting a full ride scholarship to Southern Illinois University, he joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Mammoth for electronics repair training. He spent the next two years in Germany repairing radar units and electronics for the Army. After his discharge, he was employed by Olin Mathieson Chemical Corp. where he performed various quality related jobs leading him to gage and instrument calibration. He remained a Calibration Technician through the time at the plant when the name was changed to Olin Corporation and was then spun-off to become Primex Technologies. During this time, he was elected President of the local union, Local 15009A United Steelworkers of America, where he remained president for over 30 years, running in several of the elections unopposed.

Paul is survived by his wife Gloria, son Greg and wife Lisa, Daughter Libbie Miles and husband Chad, Grandsons, Andrew Miles, Dylan and wife Brittany Moore, Caleb and wife Leslie Miles, Granddaughter, Abigail and husband Craig Barter, and Great Grandson, Elijah Paul Moore and Great Granddaughter, Scarlett Lee Barter.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday March 29, 2025, in the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Keith Fletcher officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and the Army Burial Team. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
