PHYLLIS JOAN SANDERS

Phyllis Joan Sanders, 89, of Johnston City, passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2025.

Phyllis was born on May 21, 1936, in Johnston City to John and Thelma (Williams) Beaver. She was united in marriage to Vernon Sanders on September 4, 1953.

She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Johnston City and kept a strong faith throughout her life. Phyllis was a graduate of Johnston City High School. She worked for General Telephone Company from 1969-1979 as a telephone operator. In her retirement she enjoyed being a homemaker and cooking for family and friends. She enjoyed preparing cookie and candy trays at Christmas for friends. In her earlier years, Phyllis enjoyed knitting and cross stitching and has always enjoyed reading. Many weekends were spent on fishing trips with her husband and neighbors. In later years, she traveled with friends on cruises and to Florida to escape Illinois winter weather.

Phyllis is survived by one daughter, Debi (Mike) Delligatti of Canton, IL; five grandchildren, Greg (Susan) Hampton of Knoxville, TN, Jason (Theresa) Hampton of Benton, Cam Delligatti of Chattanooga, TN, Carly (Jeff) Cresto of Ottawa, IL, and Christin (Paul) Baxter of Ottawa, IL; eight great grandchildren Lauren Hampton of Tampa, FL, Kaitlyn (Adam) Judd of Smyrna, GA, Makaela (Adam) Carter of Marion, Jace Hampton of Benton, Wren Delligatti of Chattanooga, TN, Brooke Baxter, Brody Baxter and Brynlee Baxter of Ottawa, IL; one great-great grandchild, Rylan Judd of Smyrna GA; one brother John Beaver of Johnston City.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her daughter, Kathy Hampton and her sister, Shirley Karraker.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 2 from 11:00 to 1:00 at Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery In Johnston City.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
