RICHARD "RICK" DEAN MURPHY
Carbondale-Richard "Rick" Dean Murphy, 55, of Carbondale, passed away with his loving family at his side at 9:30 P.M. on Sunday, March 29, 2015 in the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday April 2, 2015 at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with Fr. Bob Flannery officiating. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
Rick was born on March 6, 1960 in Herrin, the son of Cecil Jr. and Rose (Miner) Murphy. He married Marsha (Calonne) on June 1, 1985 in Johnston City. She survives.
Rick retired as a recreational therapist from the V.A. Hospital in Marion. He then worked as a golf associate at Dick's Sporting Goods for 8 years. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, Cub's fan and Notre Dame fan. He was a former slow pitch softball player. Rick was a beloved husband and father.
He is survived by his mother of Johnston City; one son, Michael Murphy of Carbondale; two daughters, Kelly Murphy stationed in the navy in California, and Heather Murphy of Carbondale; two sisters, Patty Greeney of Johnston City and Susie Murphy of Marion; brother-in-law, Jerome Calonne and wife Virginia; sister-in-law, Linda Bandy and husband Larry; nieces and nephews, Brandon Greeney and wife Ashley and children Colton and Hanna, Bryan Greeney and fiancée LeighAnne and son Bryant; Pamela Bennett and husband John and son Justin, Brian Calonne and wife Christy and children Ryian and Ashtyn, Carrie Eldridge and husband Don and children Ben and Reece, Kevin Calonne and children, Alexander, Joshua, Alisandra, and Josephine, Kim Eubanks and husband Tim and children T.J. and Bayley, Jody Smith and son Dawson.
He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Debbie Kay Murphy; and his beloved dog, Merlin.
