ROBERT "RIBS" P. SAVANT

Johnston City–Robert "Ribs" P. Savant 94, of Johnston City, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 6:55 A.M. at the Herrin Hospital.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday October 2, 2016, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.FW., American Legion, and Illinois Army National Guard.

Robert was born on December 8, 1921 in Johnston City, the son of Pete and Rose (Endrizzi) Savant. He married Edna (Chasteen) on April 30, 1953 in Springfield. She survives.

Robert was a retired carpenter and a member of the carpenters union for 65 years. He was a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church of Johnston City and the Johnston City Knights of Columbus. He served as a past Alderman for Johnston City. He was a veteran of WWII proudly serving the army.

He is survived by his wife of Johnston City; two sisters, Violet Parsons of Herrin and Delores Grisham and husband Glen of Eldorado; a sister-in-law, Virginia Richison of Johnston City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Louise Cernkovich; brother-in-law's and sister-in-law's, Edward B. Chasteen and wife Ruth, Robert V. Chasteen and wife Nadine, Albert Cernkovich, Virgil Richison, and Carl Parsons.
