Obituary

ROBERT WILLIAM "BOB" CURRY
Robert William "Bob" Curry, 77, of Ferges, Illinois peacefully passed away on November 13, 2016 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis, MO.
He was born to the late Robert and Clara Jane (Helms) Curry on August 13, 1939 in his grandmother's home on 13th street in Herrin, Illinois.
He married Donna Mae Grant on May 22, 1965. They shared 51 years and 6 months of marriage together.
He was a 1957 graduate of Johnston City High School. He served in the United States Army from 1963-1965. He was a member of the UMWA and worked for 23 years as a coal miner. He retired from Freeman Coal Company in 1994.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 0147 of Marion, Illinois and the Buccaneer's Club of Johnston City, Illinois.
In his retirement years, if not visiting his buddies at the Buccaneer's Club, you could find him basking in the sun on his deck in Ferges while guarding the neighborhood and enjoying a Stag beer. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke in his slow, low voice, you listened….especially when he told you to "quit your monkeying around."
Bob is survived by his wife Donna; children, Janine Kay Curry of Benton, Illinois and Chadwick Dent Curry of Chicago, Illinois; grandsons and granddaughter-in-law, Joshua Patrick Hunter and Mistie Willingham of Vinegar Hill, Illinois and Kaleb Grant Hunter of Ferges, Illinois; brother and sister-in-law, Loren and Rebecca Curry; sister-in-laws, Nancy (Jack) Montgomery, Sandy (Maynard) Goddard, Janice Holloway, and Denise Ryan; many, many special nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; his good and special friend Randy Morris; and his constant companion "Pup."
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Curry V; his parents, Robert and Clara Jane Curry; his mother and father-in-law, Horace Dent and Alma Grant; and sister-in-law Sharon Curry.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, IL with the Pastor Stephen Hudspath officiating.
