RUTH ANN SMITH
Pittsburg-Ruth Ann Smith 75, of Pittsburg passed away at 11:20 P.M. on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at her family home.
Per her request she will be cremated and there will be no services. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Ruth was born on March 28, 1939 in Williamson County, the daughter of Ralph and Pauline (Fowler) Grant. She married George Alfred Smith who preceded her in death on November 12, 2001.
Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marion and was a part of the JOY Singers and was interpreter for the deaf ministries. She worked as an R.N. at the V.A. Hospital in Marion for 42 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Ericka Remington of Knoxville, TN; a son, Paul Anthony Hoffard and wife Juliet of Los Angeles, CA; three grandchildren, Teresa Brandon and husband Tim of Pittsburg, Tiffany Howard of Carbondale; and Jason Owen of Peoria; three great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Audrey Brandon, and Dylan Howard; a sister Carrol Clendenin and husband Larry of Marion; a sister-in-law, Olive Grant of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Mahan and husband Clifton; and a brother, Ralph Grant.
