Marion-Stephen Ray Cobb 78 passed away at 7:30 A.M. Saturday July 5, 2025 at home.

We are very sad to announce that our beloved Father passed away peacefully of natural causes at his house in Marion, Illinois the morning of July 5th, 2025. He spent his last 4th of July celebration with neighbors and friends.

Stephen Ray Cobb was born on November 6th, 1946 in Carrier Mills, Illinois. He served in the United States Army from January 1964- January 1967 as a Tank Mechanic. He was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas and in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was trained at Ft. Benning, Georgia. After his time in the military, he moved to Pontiac, Michigan where he worked as a Master Mechanic for Dodge Chrysler for many years. After Michigan, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he opened his own mechanic shop in the downtown area. He completed his working life in Tennessee at Bob Frensley Chrysler.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents James Victor and Gertrude Cobb, his sisters Donna and Sue and a brother, John.

Family left behind include his sons Stephen Cobb (Christy) and Brian Cobb (Mary), and a daughter Amy Woosley (Steve). He was proud of his grandkids: Michael, Jay, Cameron, Meghan, Dylan, Harley; and his great grandkids: Victor, Vaughan, Vilhelm, and Maggie and Tekoa. He also had several nieces: Tracy, Beth Ann, Tonia, Shanna, Wanda and a nephew, John Robert, who was like a son to him. The last years of his life were spent with his loving companion, Melba "Mel" Tate and his fur baby, Bonzai.

Steve was the most avid Detroit Lions fan all of his life. He loved going to casinos, playing pool, golf, country music and dancing.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the VA in Marion, Illinois or VFW Post 1301 in Marion, Illinois.

Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday July 19, 2025 at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home of Johnston City. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion and the Illinois Army Burial Detail.
