Steven Lee Bolte, 59, of Herrin, Illinois passed away at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday, February 15th 2024.

Steven was born on June 25th, 1964 in Huntington, New York. He was the son of Mary A. Laffman Bolte and Claude L. Bolte.

Steven was a graduate of Johnston City High School, class of 83.

Steven joined the United States Army shortly after graduating high school and proudly served his country for 5 years. After his military service he worked as a health care worker, helping others was a burning passion of Stevens. Later he retired with full military disability.

Steven married the love of his life Gwendolyn Smiley on December 30th, 1983. Together they shared 40 years of marriage and two amazing children, Jonathan Lee Bolte and Heather Dawn Bolte

Steven enjoyed fishing, Rock n Roll music, and spending the majority of his time outdoors.

He loved helping other people any way he could, socializing, and spreading the word of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Steven is survived by his wife Gwendolyn Bolte of Herrin, his daughter Heather Bolte and son in law Dustin Burley of Johnston City and his son Jonathan Lee Bolte of Marion Illinois. In addition to his wife and children Steven is survived by his mother Mary A. Bolte of Johnston City, his brothers Mark Bolte of South Carolina, Brian Bolte and wife Dawn of Marion, IL, and Scott Bolte of Johnston City and his sister Mary Dawn Bowles and husband Cody of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Claude Bolte , mother in law Eileen Smiley,  father in law Dale Smiley, brother's in law Darrel Smiley, and Jimmy Smiley, sister in law Marla Frazier and his dearest and best friend Billy Mulkins

A memorial service will be held Saturday March 2nd, 2024 from 10am to 12pm at Murman and Wilson funeral home in Johnston City, Illinois. In accordance to Steven's wishes he will be cremated.
