THELMA M. VEIL

Thelma M. Veil (Newton) born August 29 ^th 1944 to Ira and Lacey Newton passed away February 9 ^th 2023 at 78 years of age. My mom was preceded in death by both her parents, her sisters Shirley, Iris, and Vera, and her one brother Ira. Her surviving Sibling is Janice Taylor of Marion.

Thelma is survived by her son, Kenneth Veil (Dawn Dueker) and his five children; Daisy Watkins, Shane Veil, Lillian Veil, Hannah Dueker, and Hayley Dueker.

She is also survived by an extremely large extended family, including but not limited to John Krantz, Mary Powers, Kenya York, Heather Krantz, Sue Krantz Stearns, Brenda Aldrige, Danny York, Richard A. Shively, Billy Sloan, and many more nieces and nephews that she loved and spoke of often.

My mom Thelma lived life on her terms and was never defined by an occupation. Although she did at various times in her life have the job titles of Maytag worker, coal miner, tavern owner, waitress, and bar tender. Her most loved job being that of mother. She was always a mother first and all other things second.

I'm asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 18 ^th at 1:00 P.M. at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
