THOMAS RAY ELLIS

Marion-Thomas Ray Ellis 70 passed away at 12:25 P.M. on Monday, October 23, 2017 at home.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday October 27, 2017, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Kendall Brantley officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and Navy Funeral Honors Burial Detail.

Tom was born on February 1, 1947 in Carbondale, the son of Raymond and Betty (Fowler) Ellis. He married Deborah (Gilpin) Ellis on April 20, 2007. She survives.

Tom was a retired coal miner working for over 35 years and was a member of the U.M.W.A. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War. He attended Grace Missionary Baptist Church of Marion. He loved gardening, having family gatherings, cooking, horseback riding, and most of all he loved Almighty God and his family.

He is survived by his father; and 3 children with Luetta (Evrard) Ellis, Mindy Harvel and husband Mike of Pittsburg, Melissa Johnson and husband Paul of Johnston City, Shawn Ellis of Pittsburg; 7 grandchildren, Tyler Johnson and wife Allison, Trent Johnson, Blaine Harvel, Brett Harvel, Tori Ellis, Taylor Ellis, and Kash Ellis; 3 step-grandchildren, Kiaya Curd and husband Brandon, Braden and Kayliy Trent; 2 brothers, Kenneth Ellis and wife Cindy of Marion, Daniel Ellis and wife Linda of Marion; one sister, Kathy Marlatt and husband Dick of Danville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and in-laws, Zelma and Robert Gilpin.
