TIMOTHY KIRKPATRICK
Johnston City–Tim Kirkpatrick 59, of Johnston City passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11:30 A.M. at the Herrin Hospital.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday December 23, 2015, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Larry Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Johnston City School District Athletics or Johnston City Little League Baseball. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Tim was born on June 18, 1956 in Christopher, the son of Tom and Betty Jo (Hale) Kirkpatrick. He married his best friend, and High School Sweetheart, Patti (Kunkel) on August 3, 1979 in Johnston City. She survives.
Tim was in the coal mining industry for over 41 years. He worked at Zeigler #4, Inland Steel, Kerr-McGee, American Coal, and presently Cline Resources. He was a member and past captain of area mine rescue teams, and trainer for fire brigade and mine rescue. He was a member of the Buccaneer's Club in Johnston City, the Oleo Bird Club of Pittsburg, the Benton Elks, and the Johnston City Hall of Fame committee. He was a member of the Illinois Mining Institute, member and past president of the Holmes Association, the National Mine Rescue Rules Committee, Illinois Mine Rescue Association, and the Illinois State Mining Board. He was selected the Illinois Mining Institute "Mining Man of the Year." Tim will always be remembered by his infectious smile!
He is survived by two sons, Kyle Kirkpatrick and wife Erika of Benton, Kris Kirkpatrick and wife Jessica of Benton; grandsons, Karson, Kobie, and Kruz who will be born in April; a brother, Randy Kirkpatrick and wife Glenetta of Johnston City; a brother, Kevin Davis and wife Jaimie of Pueblo West, CO; mother-in-law June Kunkel, sister-in-law Deanna (Jim) Barker, brother-in-law Guy Kunkel, and brother-in-law Paul (Lisa) Kunkel. His niece Kelli (Brock) Babington, nephew Brandon (Haleigh) Barker, nephew Billy (Ashley) Kunkel, nephew Jason Kunkel, niece Jamie Kunkel and great nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tom, Betty, and Flo.
