TIMOTHY SMITH

Mt. Vernon-Timothy Smith, 69 formerly of Johnston City, who resided at Nature Trail Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon, left us unexpectedly on July 8, 2021 in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt Vernon.

Services will be held on Wednesday July 14, 2021 at 2:00 P.M in the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Bruce McCree officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion and the Army Burial Honor Team. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

He was born in Avon on April 26, 1952 the son of Harry and Cecilia (McLeran) Smith. He married Rita (McCree) Smith on October 13, 1973 in Avington. She survives.

Timothy served in the Army from December 24, 1970 to Aril 30, 1973. He was a volunteer for the V.A. Hospital in Marion for several years. He enjoyed fishing, flea markets and auctions. He also enjoyed leading song services at the Church of God in West Frankfort, where he was a member. Recently he enjoyed collecting and racing remote control cars at the Nature Trail Nursing Home.

Timothy was a kid at heart and enjoyed giving Christmas gifts for children at the Marion Lighthouse Shelter.

He is survived by four daughters, Maelena Hordin and husband Ryan of Carbondale, Sonya Smith and Lucas White of Mt. Vernon, Beth Smith of DuQuoin, and Merideth Smith of Marion; fourteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Hank McLeran and wife Jan of Monmouth; and one sister, Rose Hawkins of Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bobby and Harry; two sisters, Sharon Smith and Shirley Bohanon; and one great grandson, Tyler Michael Gene Davis.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
