VAL JEAN COWLES
Johnston City-Val Jean Cowles 84, of Johnston City passed away at 10:05 A.M. Wednesday November 21, 2012 in the Franklin Care Center in West Frankfort.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday November 24, 2012 at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Jim Cockburn and Joe Cockburn officiating. Burial will be in the Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Val was born on October 7, 1928 in the Johnston City Hospital that is now the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home the son of Norman and Jessie (McCuan) Cowles. He married Pat (Stocks) on August 18, 2001. She survives.

Val retired from Maytag as a draftsman. He was a life member of the West Frankfort Country Club and a life long member of the Bass Busters.

He is survived by a step-son, Larry Cody and wife Sharon of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Darlene Hancock and husband Harry of Johnston City; three nephews, Doug Hancock and wife Marla, Tim Hancock and Robin; and Scott Hancock; and one niece, Cindy Harper and husband Randy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
