Vaundice O. Newton, 87, of Greencastle, IN formerly of Pekin, and Johnston City, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2010.

She was born on July 21, 1923 in Carrier Mills, to George T. Craig and Delia Blevins Craig. She married James R. Newton of Marion, IL on September 28, 1941, and he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Newton was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Pekin, where she volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher in Nursing Homes for over 20 years, and was active in various church groups. She retired from Caterpillar of Peoria and had been employed by J.C. Penney.

Surviving are a son, James W. Newton of Bradenton, FL; two grandchildren, William R. Newton and wife Rachel of Bloomington, IN and Kimberly Beadles and husband Chad of Greencastle, IN; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Newton Shotwell of Greencastle; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Aiden Beadles; nieces, Linda Nelson of Montana, Shelia Cline of Michigan, Chris Challinor of Montana, Sandra Shoemaker of Idaho, Joy Harris, Judy Hall, Wanda Robinson, Barbara Harvel all of Southern Illinois; nephews, Bob Beaver and Ralph Beaver of Southern, IL and Carl Craig of MT.

Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Thomas L. Newton; a sister, Leola Beaver; four brothers, Theron Craig, Carl Craig, Eugene Craig and Diras Craig; a nephew Ray Beaver and a niece, Darlene McNeill.

Vaundice loved the outdoors, especially Essex, Montana where she and her husband lived, and explored Glacier National Park. She also enjoyed Antique Hunting and Auctions.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 12 Noon at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home, 211 West Broadway Boulevard, Johnston City, with Pastor Keith Heberer officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until time of services at the funeral home.
