VELMA BURNETT

Johnston City-Velma Owens Burnett, 90, of Johnston City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 17, 2016 at 4:00 am at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville.

Velma was born March 1, 1926, in Johnston City, the daughter of Edgar and Willie Mae (McCollum) Owens. She was married first to George Burnett and then to William Ford, who both preceded her in death.

She was a faithful member of The Church of God of West Frankfort.
She worked at National Transformer and after it closed spent many years as a caregiver.

She was a precious and loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by five children: Danny Burnett (Anita) of Bridgeport, Edgar Burnett (Brenda) of Lawrenceville, Keith Ford of Lawrenceville, Susan Ford Townsend (Bruce) of Memphis, TN and Paul Ford (Jason Thomas) of Cape Girardeau, MO; fourteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, William Ford, of Lawrenceville. She was the oldest of eight and they preceded her in death: Reba McCree, Wanda Onstott, William Owens, Lucille Lester, Bobby Owens, Phyllis Stanislawski and Charles Owens. She loved her family with all her heart and nothing made her happier than spending precious time with them.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Don Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.
