WILLIAM DAVID "BILL" KENDRICK

Johnston City– William David "Bill" Kendrick, age 92, of Johnston City passed away at 4:53 P.M. Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Union County Hospital at Anna, Illinois with his loving family by his side.

Bill was born in Stiritz, Illinois on April 28, 1923 to Walter Kendrick and Callie (Curlee) Kendrick. He was united in marriage to Shirley Oliver on April 12, 1947. Survivors include his wife Shirley, daughters Jane Ann and Rebecca "Becky", son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Brenda Kendrick, all of Johnston City; four granddaughters Laura Coloni, Angela Coloni, Kelly Kendrick, and Monica (Jason) Linton, all of Johnston City; nine great grandchildren, Kyle Savant, Carley Payne, Madyson Moore, Logan and Jackson Essary, Jace and Sydney Linton, and Trevor and Chelsea Shoup; sister-in-law Joyce Kendrick of Cleveland Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elinor (Mebbs) Babington and Sue (Arnold) Jackson, and brothers Gordon Kendrick and Leonard (Joyce) Kendrick.

Bill has been a member of the Johnston City United Methodist Church since 1939. He graduated from Johnston City High School in 1941 and in 1942 enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country in the Pacific during W.W.II aboard the USS George F. Elliott (AP-105) and was honorable discharged from service in 1946. He was a long-standing member of the VFW and American Legion. Bill worked for thirty-five years at Stotlar-Herrin Lumber Yard in Johnston City. After retiring from Stotlar in 1980, he worked many more years as a self-employed handy man. Bill enjoyed fishing, gardening, and Cardinal baseball. He particularly looked forward to annual reunions with his navy shipmates and traveled the country with his family attending the "Fightin Foxes" reunions from 1992-2004.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Michael Mayfield officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Johnston City. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and Navy Funeral Honor's Burial Detail.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to his niece, Glenda (Babington) Ruppel, Mike Clark of ADDUS Home Care, staff of VA Home Health, staff of the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna, his doctors and nurses at Union County Hospital of the Illinois and attending staff of Hospice of Southern Illinois for all of their loving care and support.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Johnston City or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
