WILLIAM "DENNIS" SMITH

Johnston City-William "Dennis" Smith 67 of Johnston City passed away on Saturday May 12, 2012 at 10:10 P.M. at the St. Louis University Hospital.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M Wednesday May 16, 2012 at the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Johnston City with Father Joseph Trapp. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. conducted by Sr. Catherine Wellinghoff. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and Illinois Army National Guard.

Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Dennis was born on October 30, 1944 in Johnston City the son of William A. "Bill" and Elizabeth "Betty" (Leonard) Smith.

Dennis was a retired barber who owned and operated the Clip Joint Barber Shop in Johnston City for 40 years. He graduated from Decatur Barber College. He was a past Johnston City Alderman and had served on the Williamson County Housing Board. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War proudly serving in the army. He was a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church, Holy Name Society and the Johnston City Knights of Columbus #7989 serving as a past Grand Knight.

One of Dennis's proudest achievements was against all odds returning to being a barber after the loss of his left arm in an auto accident in 1986.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, RoseMarie (Lazorchak); one daughter, Chanda McCoy and husband John of Johnston City; one son, Chad Smith of Johnston City; grandchildren, Jaden Nichole Smith, Hadleigh Arianne Smith, Jarron Wesley McCoy, and Aliyna Elisabeth McCoy; one sister, Joyce DeBose and husband Russell of Johnston City; a nephew, Brian DeBose and wife Kim of Marion; a great niece, Brooke DeBose; and a great nephew, Dillon DeBose

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Kerrigan Marie McCoy.
