WILLIAM F. SMITH
Herrin-William F. Smith, 76, of Herrin, passed away at 6:12 P.M. Saturday November 30, 2013 in the St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday December 4, 2012 at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Michael Neubert officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Herrin V.F.W. , American Legion, Freeman Spur American Legion and Illinois Army National Guard

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Herrin or to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

William was born on December 26, 1936 in Lancaster, PA the son of William F. and Christine (McGill) Smith. He married Phyllis Ann (Reed) on April 19, 1958 in Barstow, CA. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2002.

William was a retired accountant and vice president in the coal industry. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Herrin were he served as an elder and deacon throughout the years. He was a veteran proudly serving in the marines. William enjoyed hunting and spending time at the ocean with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by 2 sons, Ken Smith and wife Karen of Herrin, Scott Smith and wife Vicki of St. Peters, MO; 5 grandchildren, Jeremy, Nathan, Erin, Abby, and Grace; 1 brother, Jack Smith of Ocala, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Margaret Parrish.
