WILMA MARIE HURLEY

Pittsburg-Wilma Marie Hurley, 84 passed away at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2011 at home surrounded by her family.
Wilma was born September 5, 1927 in Advance, MO to Charlotte and Charles Bennett. She married Ernest "Wayne" Hurley on March 9th, 1946 and together they shared 65 years of marriage. They spent several years in Crainville, IL where they had three children, David, Dot and Randi. The family moved often traveling for work to Oregon and Colorado before eventually returning to Southern Illinois.
Over the years Wilma enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids and later her great grandkids. Some of her favorite activities included tending to her vegetable garden, feeding the birds in the winter, finding a GREAT bargain at a yard sale and reading a good book. She was clearly the heart of our family and everyone would travel from miles around to get just a bite or two of her Chicken and Dumplings. It wasn't a summer day if one of her family wasn't found drinking sweet tea with her out in her swings. Wilma was of Baptist faith and had often enjoyed singing with her daughters during church services. She will indeed be terribly missed.
Survivors include husband, Wayne Hurley; son David Hurley & wife Sheila of Corinth, daughter Dot Pelton of Pittsburg, daughter Randi Price and husband Larry of Pittsburg; and five grandchildren Kip Hendrickson & wife Tracy of Marion, Tammy Kell & husband Scott of Carterville, Julie Johnson of Johnston City, Jessi Hurley of Johnston City, and Casey Springer of Murray, Ky.; and 10 great grandchildren. Also survived by her sister Irene Stuewer of Paradise, CA., Charles Bennett of West Frankfort IL, and Dorothy Lee Brancyk of Johnston City, IL.
Wilma was preceded in death by her mother and father, her beloved brother Jesse A. Tidwell who was lost in WW2, and sister Lois Smothers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday at Murman and Wilson Funeral home in Johnston City from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, Services to follow at 2:00 pm. with Rick Ditch officiating. Burial will be in the #8 Cemetery east of Johnston City
