WILLIAM FLOYD SMITH
Johnston City–William Floyd Smith 89 of Johnston City passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 12:30 P.M. at his family home.
Services will be held at 9:00 A.M., Saturday October 22, 2016, in the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Johnston City with Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and the Navy Funeral Honors Burial Detail. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home.
William was born on June 8, 1927, in Bush, the son of William Perry and Alma Mae (Fulgham) Smith. He married Ruth Ann (Hassett) on February 14, 1949 in North Chicago. She survives.
William worked for over 30 years as a Certified Operating Room Tech. at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion and he worked for 10 years as manager of the V.F.W. Club in Marion. He was a member of the St Paul's Catholic Church of Johnston City. He was a veteran of WWII proudly serving in the Navy on the USS Wasp as a gunner's mate. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 1301 of Marion and the American Legion Post 147 of Marion.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Johnston City; two daughters, Debra I. Pulley (Buddy) of Marion and Glenda J. Smith (Jackie) of Rockford, grandsons Bradley Pulley (Adam) and Brent Pulley and great grandson Ari, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Davie and godchild Jane Yarnell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James W. Smith, infant sister Mary Magdeline, sister Alma Irene Calvert, and brother Robert L. Smith.
